Motivations and Challenges in Boise Run/Walk Group

ABSTRACT: Researchers examined participant’s motivations for joining a local run/walk group. There were a total of 82 participants in which there were significantly more female than males (females = 75, males = 7). Also, there were significantly more Caucasian participants than other ethnic groups (Caucasian = 72, African-American = 1, Asian = 3, Hispanic/Latino = 3, Other = 2). Researchers surveyed questions about when they joined the group, top three stressors, physical activity within last six months, walking exercise, and running exercise. In addition, the same participants were asked the same questions at a later date. Researchers also surveyed participants about behaviors they would like to change, benefits of those changes, short-term goals, strategies for achieving goals, obstacles, possible solutions, and propose rewards for achieving goals.
